I really though that everyone would enjoy my plans for the coming weekend. I'd planned a two-day event, which would include sailboat races to Thetis Island and back, predicted log events for competitive power boaters, and a fun two-day cruise for everyone else, This was to be combined with a wrap-up gathering on the clubhouse dock Sunday afternoon. Well, first we had to cancel the predicted log due to a lack of interest. Now I have to cancel the cruise, due to the fact that nobody in the club wants to go. Also, we have only four or five sailboats interested in the race. Obviously, we have to cancel the whole thing. I think that Fleet Captain Mike Crown will probably schedule a regular club sailboat race on Sunday, to count in our series. My guess is that it will be the North Reef race, but racers will have to wait until they hear from Mike in this regard. The next club cruise is scheduled for Maple Bay in October. It is planned for October first, second and third. This is usually a very well-supported cruise, with dinner at the Shipyard pub & restaurant on Saturday evening and a gathering at the outdoor picnic area saturday afternoon. In previous years, we have sometimes arranged for Friday evening dinner at the Maple Bay Yacht Club, to enjoy the club's famous Friday night meal. Unfortunately, I will be away during that time (my annual week's trek to Alberta), so I'll have to ask if anyone else will take over the organization of the weekend. Please let me know if you can take this job on. I've already confirmed that we can get space at the Maple Bay marina that weekend. I have not spoken to MBYC about the possibility of Friday evening there, or the use othe club's reciprocal dock. So whoever volunteers to take over my job for the weekend will have to confirm with the marina, and will have to make reservations at the Shipyard pub. If the MBYC on Friday evening looks like an attractive option, then some negotiations with Maple Bay YC will be in order. If anyone is interested in taking on this job for the October cruise, please let me know. Otherwise this cruise will also have to be cancelled. I will provide help to the volunteering member regarding who to contact and how to organize things, if desired.
